Marana, Arizona is a rapidly growing, northwest suburb of Tucson, Arizona. It's located about 20-30 minutes from downtown Tucson. Marana used to be known for its farmland. Now, it's known for lovely housing, amenities, good schools, convenience to all that the Tucson area has to offer, and a well-run city government that consistently operates in the black.
Marana operates under a Council-Manager form of government. This combines the political leadership of elected officials with the expertise and experience of a professional manager. Marana is consistently recognized as a very well-run, very safe city. Marana has also become recognized as an extremely business-friendly city.
Marana has a mission to be “business supportive”, and strives to become the most business-friendly city in Southern Arizona. Marana outwardly and inwardly values corporate investment, and offers much to corporations in return. There's easy access to multi-modal transportation and a Development Service Center.
Straddling Interstate 10, Marana is emerging as a logistics hub. The Union Pacific railway also runs along I-10 which provides another transportation option for Marana business.
Infrastructure improvements are ongoing in Marana, and the Marana Regional Airport (yes, I said airport!) has been vastly improved. It's becoming a popular airport for executive travel and general aviation.
Aviation, aerospace, and defense industries are also present and growing in Marana, AZ. Sustainable career-oriented industries are developing in and coming to Marana for all Marana has to offer. The creation of high-paying, professional jobs has, and will continue, to provide a strong economic base for Marana and its residents to flourish.
As with the rest of Arizona, tourism is also a staple of Marana. The luxury Ritz-Carlton Marana is located in Dove Mountain. Hiking, biking, camping, and stargazing are all available throughout the Marana community. And, let us not forget golf and other outdoor recreational activities. Residents of the Marana, Arizona area have been thriving since 1200 B.C.! These were some of the first farmers and villagers in what's now America's Southwest. Through the 1800s, Westward Expansion hit the Marana area. The Southern Pacific Railroad was running through the Marana area by the end of the 19th century. From the early 20th century up until very recently, the Marana area thrived as a farming community. In 1920, the name Marana was finally, formally, attached to the area. Ranching came to the area as well. In 1977 Marana was incorporated. This was primarily done to retain water rights for current and future residents. Since the late 1980s, farming has been on the decline, and the other industries previously discussed have been filling the void.
Marana, Arizona is a wonderful area to live in. There are many great housing developments ranging from very reasonably priced homes to luxury homes. All are close to many amenities and enjoy a high-quality lifestyle.
